In general, fish like clean water with enough cover to hide from bigger fish, or so that they can pounce on smaller fish. Cover can be plants that grow in the water, dead trees that fall in the river, rocks, and undercut river banks.

They also like to have clean sand or gravel beds to spawn. A few other things that are important to fish survival are levels of dissolved oxygen in the water, pH levels, and water temperature. These factors vary from one fish species to another. For example some fish can live in warm water (large mouth bass) where others need to live in cold water (rainbow trout).

Feeding Habits

Fish like to eat many different things. Some like dead plant and animal matter; others like aquatic bugs, and still others like other fish!
